I know I’m not speaking for myself when I say I've attempted a TikTok challenge or two this past year. Those dances can be harder than they look!
TikTok popularity has been growing rapidly fast! In fact, according to socialmediatoday.com, “TikTok's average monthly time spent per user grew faster than nearly every other app analyzed, including 70% in the US and 80% in the UK - surpassing Facebook. TikTok is on track to hit 1.2 billion active users in 2021”.
With this undeniable growth, it’s no wonder why so many businesses, especially beauty brands, are adding TikTok into their digital mix. There are tons of brands, celebrities, influencers, and publishers pushing the boundaries and sharing super creative TikTok content.
I.E, Tiktok isn't just for teens and the Gen Z population.
If you're looking to get more clients to your salon or just ready to show off your awesome makeup skills, stay tuned because we’re sharing some of the best Tiktok tips for beauty brands that you should add to your marketing strategy like, yesterday.
1.) Be 100% as Possible to Grow Your Audience
If you want your beauty business to be successful on TikTok then you need to be authentic. Don’t push your product, service, or any kind of sales. What makes your brand fun and special?
Maybe one of your stylists is good at a particular type of makeup, or maybe one of the ingredients from your skincare line has a cool back story, the goal is to think about how your brand could be creative and express those things through TikTok content.
Create a community around your unique content so that when the time is right to push your product/service, you’ll already have a fanbase excited to learn more about your offer.
2.) Research & Engage on the Platform
However, another way to gain a seat at the cool kids' lunch table, i.e the TikTok community, is to spend some time on the platform. Browse through videos to see how other MUA’s, Salons, and small businesses are using the platform.
It goes without saying that the better you know your ideal customers and clients, the easier it will be to create content that they love and can’t resist sharing. Kelly Kreation, a full-service salon in Pennsylvania, uses their Facebook account as a portfolio of their tech’s beautiful nail designs, before and after type pics, and promotions. Whereas on TikTok, they’ll take viewers behind-the-scenes during teeth whitening and microblading sessions, or take the time to educate their audience on the benefits of some of their services. Like Fibroblast Plasma Tightening. Seriously, looks way less scary than surgery.
3.) Share High-Quality Content
There are lots of different types of TikToks you could create, but if you’re looking for specific suggestions for beauty brands, then focus on showing Reveals, (Before & after or product shots, but done creatively!), Behind the Scene or Tutorials, and Education.
In the same way, posting your gorgeous styles and products is the key to Instagram success, your audience on TikTok loves to see your finished products, be taken through the process, or shown how your product can benefit them. Pro tip! You’ll get brownie points if you use trending sounds, filters, or effects!
As for sharing tips and tricks and educating your client base, this is a great way to build trust with your audience. If you’re in the skincare industry, for example, you could share TikTok content about common mistakes people usually make with their skincare routine, the best natural products to purchase at Target, or what to do in case of a breakout.
Whatever story you decide to tell, just make sure it’s short and succinct and elicits an emotion in the viewer. Ask yourself: will this inspire them? Make them laugh? Encourage them? Tug on their heartstrings?
4.) User-Generated Content
Since user-generated content is the basis of TikTok’s appeal and success, it may come as no surprise to hear that this is one of our 15 most useful TikTok marketing tips in 2021.
So if you're running this solely for your brand or business, or just a little shy to get on camera, find ways to encourage your community to share videos of themselves using your products or services.
This kind of content tends to drive much better engagement than brand-generated content and will increase brand awareness without needing to push salesy TikTok videos.
5.) Use the Trends
Remember my pro tip form earlier? TikTok videos that use trending hashtags are more likely to be discovered and have a better chance of success than those that don’t.
So, guess what? You’re going to use them!
However, remember that your TikTok caption is limited to 100 characters. That means caption plus hashtags – so you need to be strategic with the ones you use.
Use a combination of broad and niche hashtags to increase your engagement.
For example, a hair brand’s TikTok video might have generic hashtags like #naturalhairtiktok or location hashtags like #atlantahairextensions and #chicagohairsalon. In addition to those broader hashtags, include some more specific hashtags like #wavybrazillian and #redhair.
Just like with hashtags, using a trending song is a smart tactic to improve the success of your TikTok content. Keep an eye on the songs used on the For You page as this will show you which music will give you the best chance of being featured.
Save any songs you want to use in a future video to your favorites. To do this, just click on the song at the top, and under the name, you’ll see a bookmark with “add to your favorites”.
With its growing numbers and ample amount of opportunities for beauticians, stylists, estheticians, and dermatologists alike, using TikTok as a platform to market your beauty brand is a strategy you should add to your marketing kit.
